About Dr. Sandeep Vaishya
Dr. Sandeep Vaishya (MBBS, MS (General Surgery), MCh (Neurosurgery), Sundt Fellowship, USA) is the Executive Director & HOD - Neurosurgery & Gamma Knife at Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram. Over his career, Dr. Vaishya has performed more than 15,000 successful surgeries, treating patients from over 110 countries—a record high. With over 36 years of experience, he is widely recognized for his clinical excellence and expertise in the field of neurosurgery.
Dr. Vaishya's illustrious career includes significant contributions to top institutions such as AIIMS New Delhi, where he was an esteemed faculty member, and the Mayo Clinic in the USA. He has played pivotal roles in various professional organizations, serving as the President Elect of the World Spinal Column Society, Co-Chair of the Neurooncology Committee at WFNS, and Past President of both the Indian Society For Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery and the Indian Society of Peripheral Nerve Surgery. Additionally, he holds the position of Treasurer of the Indian Neuromodulation Society and serves as Section Editor for World Neurosurgery (Brain & Spine). He is also a member of the Spine Committee of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS).
Dr. Vaishya's expertise extends to minimally invasive spine and brain surgeries, Deep Brain Stimulation, Brachial Plexus surgeries, and Spinal Dysraphism. His particular interest in Gamma Knife Surgery, a state-of-the-art, noninvasive neurosurgical technology, has made him a pioneer in the field as he was one of the first in South Asia to start it in 1997. Fortis Hospital, Gurugram, where he practices, is the first facility in South Asia to introduce Gamma Knife Espirit which is the latest model.
In addition to his numerous achievements, Dr. Vaishya was featured in the Limca Book of Records for the successful removal of the largest Meningomyelocele. He also gained international recognition for his lifechanging surgery on a child with the largest head, featured in the Netflix documentary, Rooting for Roona and Discovery channel. His contributions have been further recognized through his authorship of over 200 publications in international journals, adding significantly to global neurosurgical knowledge. He has many chapters in text books and has co-edited an international text book on spine surgery
